3rd Youth Service Ever

After a week's break, the youth service is back on this Saturday. And just in case you were finding an excuse to come, be assured that it is not Joash sharing again (even I get bored of myself).

Who will be that blurred figure up there tomorrow?

There was no video footage or photos taken for our second youth service. And after having both of that for our first ever youth service (here and here), I feel that we should document all our youth services. What do you think, guys? Josephine, Jason and Caleb, bring your cameras. I'm bringing my video camera and Joe will bring his laptop so that we can capture the video directly. If we had internet access in church, we could have LIVE FEED!! Now wouldn't that be cool?

Event: Third Youth Service Ever
Date: 28 April, 2007

Prayer at 5pm, led by Justin Kang & Jason Kang.

2 Corinthians 5:16-17

2 Corinthians 5:16-17 - Therefore, regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

I like this scripture. Because of His death, I now participate in HIS LIFE - it tells me that I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for. My status in society, my ranking in the office doesn't define who I am or what I can do. I am part of the movers and shakers of the society. I can actually make a difference. I can look at the happenings around me & not be depressed, because I have the power to turn things around. I'm a new creation. The possibilities are endless.

I believe that this scripture also encourages us to not regard others according to the flesh. To look at others through God's eyes; to stop placing pre-judgements on people. I remember I had this dislike towards a particular person for the longest time. I would constantly get frustrated and angry (I'm sure I had the same effect on him). It was only years later that I decide to stop pre-judging him, to stop considering all our past encounters & place a label on him. I ask for his forgiveness, and made a vow to give of us a fresh start EVERYTIME we meet.

Since then our relationship has been so much better. We both were happier people. Having this perpective might not change the other person, but it would be so much more easier to love that person. After all, isn't that what God asks of us - to love our neighbour?

God I thank You for a new identity in You. I thank You for the cross that opened the way for me to be an heir of the Kingdom. I thank You for Your love upon me & I totally love the way You think of me. Teach me to love others the same. Amen.

The Announcement.

Video Link Here.

We made this video right after our first youth service. Everyone was in position, but we had no idea what we should do or say. So this is what we came up with.

A Welcomed Change

April 7th was the start of a new beginning. Youth service is no longer held on Sunday afternoons, where lunch eats into our time & results in short attention spans.

previously, people would just lay flat on the floor, with pillows and blankets!!

Now we'll meet on Saturday evenings, 6pm, after our 1 hour prayer time. Personally I like the change. Now I have to prepare my sermons earlier, but I don't have to stay up late on Saturday nights for it. Then of course Sunday afternoons is freed, so I can actually do more good with the time that I have now.

Yes, I could even sit down and preach.

It felt good preaching that evening. Everyone was more relaxed and casual. People seemed more focused & receptive after praying. The music team also did really well in preparing. I saw the practice at 2pm, and it was really cool watching 2 acoustic guitars strumming in unison. They prepared 3 songs, but it felt more appropriate at that time to just sing 1.

I shared from 2 Corinthians 5:14 -15. In spite of some trouble with the music stand, I still managed to get the point acrossed. I had 3 points prepared too, but again it was more appropriate to stick to point 1.

Jezreel is making a pulpit for the youth service. How cool is that? Hopefully it'll be more stable than this music stand.

Honestly, if it were not for the carpet and curtains, the small classroom would have really looked like a toilet. So I must thank the church for making this temporary setting look so good. Of course need to give credit to Caleb for preparing the sound system. Samuel, thanks for leading the prayer meeting & also vacuuming the carpet. Must also thank everyone for praying, your prayers did prepare the place. And the music team - Benjamin, Jezreel, Jason - for taking your role so seriously & yet be able to make the song assembly fun.

Our first ever youth service was absolutely swesome. God be praised. Hope to see the rest of the youths joining us for the second youth service ever. Remember, it's Saturday, 6pm. See you.
